Here's why you need to use gentle, effective natural moisturizers instead of the caustic paraben-based ones. And I also want to show you an easy way to recognize a good paraben free hand cream or facial lotion when you're looking for one.
First, why paraben free facial moisturizers should be on your shopping list.

You need to avoid parabens because there is a strong suspicion they trigger breast cancer. Actually we have more than just a suspicion, there is evidence, because six parabens have recently been found in the biopsies of breast tumors.
If that is not chilling enough, those parabens were found in concentrations that almost exactly mirrored the concentrations in which they are found in body care products.
I think you are aware that parabens are widely used as a cheap and effective preservative in many facial moisturizers and skin care products. They were thought to be non-toxic -- up until the sobering discovery of the six parabens in the breast tumor biopsies.
How did they get into the breast tumors? No-one can say for sure. But to me the answer is obvious -- it must have been through constant use of paraben-preserved moisturizers and body care creams. Somehow they penetrated the skin and triggered the cancers.
So I am recommending you switch to paraben free facial moisturizers. There may be no other way to avoid the threat of cancer of the breast.
Well, that's all very well, but how do you recognize paraben free facial moisturizers, or any other skin care products, like paraben free hand cream?
Two suggestions.
First, you can avoid paying a high price for naturally preserved moisturizers by considering the products from reputable small skin care manufacturers. These small business do not have to mount large, expensive branding campaigns like the international brand cosmetic companies who have a skin care sideline. The small businesses can product equally good products at a fraction of the price, as they advertise on the Internet and by word of mouth and don't incur the gigantic costs of the big name international businesses.
Second, while you are looking for moisturizers and hand creams that are preserved with gentle, natural preservative agents, also look for products that include other helpful natural ingredients. This way you get extra benefits in the same jar.
For example, a small, reputable skin care manufacturer in my city puts three interesting natural compounds into his products. (A couple of those products are paraben free facial moisturizers, incidentally.)
One is called CynergyTK. It has been proven in carefully monitored trials to reduce the number and severity of those fine lines and wrinkles on your face and hands, which is more than many skin care ingredients can claim..
There is also a form of CoQ10 -- Nanobelle CoenzymeQ10. You may have heard of Co10. It penetrates your skin where most compounds cannot. (That is good of course. You skin is supposed to be a protective barrier for your tissues!) And this form of it has clinically demonstrated abilities to smooth wrinkles.
And finally they include Phytessence Wakame, an extract from a special sea weed cultivated only in Japan which keeps skin elastic, smooth and younger looking. (Does this at least partially explain why Japanese women seem to have less wrinkles than us?)
Now that you know why to look for paraben free facial moisturizers, I trust you will find my suggestion useful to look for natural preservatives plus other useful natural ingredients in your next facial moisturizer or hand cream.
